Mirana Faiz

Writer & Director

My journey as a director and writer for short films began in 2018 with my very first film, An Autumn Story - Bach in G Minor. This project marked an important milestone for me not only was it my first published short film, but it was also entirely created and directed by me. It set the foundation for a deeply personal artistic path where music and storytelling became inseparable.

From there, I continued developing a series of short films including Vivaldi Winter, Palladio, and Howl’s Moving Castle. Each of these works explores a central theme that has remained constant throughout my creative journey: a profound and almost instinctive connection to the piano.

In all of my films, the piano is more than an instrument it is a lifeline, a voice, and a refuge. Each story reflects different emotional landscapes and life scenarios, yet they all share one unifying idea: the piano has the power to guide me through anything. Whether it is uncertainty, intensity, or transformation, the music becomes a way forward a form of expression when words are not enough.

Visually and emotionally, my films aim to translate the inner experience of music into a cinematic language. They are not just performances, but narratives of resilience, identity, and connection.

Looking ahead, my next projects will take this vision even further. I will be creating new short films based on my own original compositions, allowing the storytelling and the music to emerge from the same source. This next chapter feels like a natural evolution bringing together my voice as a composer, pianist, writer, and director into one unified artistic expression.

In the Spirit of Howl’s Moving Castle

Step into the magical world of Howl’s Moving Castle reimagined in live action! Inspired by Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle, this film follows Sophie as she discovers Howl’s secret cave, filled not with toys, but with pianos. One night, after being cursed in the hat shop, a mysterious force leads her there. Entranced, she begins to play, and through the music, the spell slowly lifts. In this magical moment, love awakens, shattering solitude and opening a path toward connection and transformation. This is an independent artistic reinterpretation of Howl’s Moving Castle, blending the original story with new twists and filmed in real-life locations that inspired or resemble the iconic film’s landscapes.

Palladio – Music Video Story

This music video tells the story of a pianist on the edge of losing herself, living in a world drained of colour and emotion.

While being guided by a nurse through a quiet, clinical corridor, she catches a glimpse through a window of a violinist outside, vibrant, expressive, and full of life. The violinist, dressed in flowing colours, embodies everything the pianist has lost: feeling, freedom, and connection to music.

This fleeting moment becomes a turning point.

Back in her room, something begins to shift. Drawn to a painting, she reaches out and touches it, as if rediscovering sensation itself. Slowly, colour begins to return, subtle at first, then growing stronger.

She sits at the piano.

Through playing, she reconnects with her inner world. The music becomes a path back to herself not an escape, but a restoration. With each note, emotion returns, and the colour of her world is gradually revived.

Palladio becomes a journey from emptiness to expression, showing how music can guide the mind back from the edge and restore a sense of self.

Vivaldi – Winter (Music Video Story)

This music video follows two friends spending a quiet winter day together near a river. They wander into the forest, exploring, playing, and enjoying the last warmth of the sunset as daylight fades into evening.

As the cold begins to settle in, they discover a small wooden cabin hidden among the trees. Drawn by curiosity and the need for warmth, they approach the window and see a mysterious scene inside: two girls one playing the piano, the other listening beside a softly lit fireplace.

But when they enter the cabin, everything has changed. The room is empty. The piano is broken. There is no fire, no light only silence and cold.

The vision vanishes as if it had never existed. Unsettled yet determined, the two friends decide to stay. One lights the fireplace, bringing warmth back into the space, while the other begins to repair the piano. Carefully tuning it, she restores the instrument and begins to play. Music fills the cabin. In the final moment, they look toward the window and realise something extraordinary: the girls they saw earlier were not strangers, but reflections of their future selves. What they witnessed was not a dream, but a glimpse of what they were about to become. The story ends with a quiet sense of wonder and unease, suggesting that music has the power not only to restore what is broken, but to transcend time itself.

An Autumn Story - Bach in G Minor – Music Video Story

This short film begins with a young girl entering an empty room, containing nothing but a piano. In the stillness of the space, she discovers a hidden set of music sheets beneath the piano stool. Drawn by curiosity, she sits down and begins to play. As the first notes of Bach in G Minor unfold, the room around her begins to dissolve. Through the music, she is transported into another time.In her imagination, she finds herself in a past era  entering a house from another period, walking slowly toward a piano. The atmosphere, the surroundings, and her presence all belong to a different world.

She sits once more and begins to play. The boundaries between present and past blur, connected entirely through the music. This film explores how music transcends time, carrying us effortlessly between different worlds, emotions, and identities  showing that a single piece can transform not only a space, but the very sense of self within it.
